Bodegas Carrau is a family business with a long history. The family started making wine in Spain, but moved to the Las Violetas region of Uruguay after the Great Depression of the 1930s. This region is located at exactly the same latitude as the well-known wine regions of Chile and South Africa. Due to the significant temperature differences between day and night, the grapes ripe slowly and are given every opportunity to develop their full aroma potential. The unique terroir, a red sandy soil with small limestones and the cutting of still green bunches of grapes in the growing season ensures a lower yield and grapes with an intense character.
